During the Salone del Mobile (Milan’s furniture fair) will take place the first edition of Public Design Festival. Nine days of installations, projects, meetings, and workshops, bridged by one red thread: urban design.
All projects, services, and installations presented at the Festival will not be simply “on display” – they will directly involve the visitors of the Salone and all the citizens of Milan.
Right when everyone’s attention is focussed on private spaces, Public Design Festival presents ideas and projects on public spaces, involving urban designers from all over the world, who will work on the designing of future-city public areas.

Special Guests: Special projects hosted at Public Design Festival
For the first time ever, a priceless work of research and selection will bring to Milan the most interesting and innovative projects dedicated to public spaces; collectives or single designers, architects, graphic designers, artists, and illustrators will be invited to re-think the city and its shared spaces, presenting new points of view, new ways to experience and go through these places, and trying to imagine a different city. Among our guests: Kacey Wong from Hong Kong, who took part in the last Venice Architecture Biennale; Santi Cirugeda from Spain, who will present his recetas urbanas project; and Winfred Baumann from Germany.
Defining Public Space: International Convention on public space philosophy

Public Hotel
An alternative hospitality service
Bed Sharing “I’m looking for 2sqm” … “I offer 2sqm” … this is the chore of the alternative hospitality system created by esterni to put in touch people looking for a place to stay in Milan with people offering one. To submit a request and read the terms and conditions visit the website www.bedsharing.org, where you will also find a catalogue of hospitable places.
The Designers’ House
This year esterni, in collaboration with Milan’s Politecnico, will present for the 5th time the Designers’ House. A hostel-house offering a new idea of creative hospitality at a low price. The Designers’ House will also host workshops, meetings, exhibitions, and social experiments – to consider the different and manifold living systems possible.
