For this reason, the fair, which for years has been showcasing the finest galleries specializing in 20th century art, has enlisted the help of a respected curator for 2009: Giacinto Di Pietrantonio. His task is to redefine the concept and rethink the approach of the event, in particular as regards the contemporary sector within the Italian and international context.

This will take the form of a series of initiatives, which we invite you to discover for yourself in the other sections of this website. But we’d like to mention here that the new developments include the establishment of a new Selection Committee and changes to the time periods that define the modern and contemporary sections, the selection of participating galleries, the opening dates and the event literature. There will also be a new coordinated program for collectors, put together by Laura Garbarino.

Plus, MiArt’s organizers intend to establish an active dialogue between the fair and its home city – with the arts, institutional and business worlds of Milan, a city with an enormous, and often unexpressed, potential. The art fair is set to become instrumental in relaunching this potential and the role of the city on the Italian and international art worlds. It will act as both the direct and indirect promoter of initiatives outside the fair that will improve the visibility of both the fair itself and Milan.

MiArt is therefore organizing a series of exhibitions in various locations about the city. It is also producing a new publication intended to help people rediscover Milan and its art.

MiArt is confident that these and other initiatives, presented in collaboration with the city’s public and private sectors (as already shown in the Miraggi project), will restore Milan’s central role and reinvigorate its cultural and economic energies.

Only through collective dialogue can Milan return to the role it deserves. And MiArt will be playing its part in this new geography. It will become an unparalleled showcase for art and the international art market as it takes on the challenges that the contemporary arts world demands.

This event is combining contemporary art with the concept of temporary. It presents “FuoriMiArt” , like series of exhibitions and performers, aimed at turning the curiosity of citizens in the art, while waiting for the important exhibition Miart which will be held in Milan from 4 th till 7 th of April.

Here, however, will be promoted the young art, innovations, new expressions and new developments in the visual arts.

As last year the event will take place at the Portello pavillion of fieramilanocity, the most important place for exhibitions and fairs. This year the fair will be open from April 4th till April 7th with an exceptional invitation-only preview on thursday, April 3.

MiArt is an important event for art collectors, gallery owners, artists and curators.

The fair will give a complete showcase of what’s going on in the modern art world throughout its 3 sections: Modern, Contemporary and Anteprima, gathering the best italian and international artworks, portraying the whole panorama of worldwide art from the historic avant-garde to the most recent experimental works, attracting collectors with different interests and backgrounds. The guest country for this year is Latin America.

One of the most awaited event for this year’s fair will be the presentation of the project for the brand new Milan Museum of Contemporary Arts, that will be realized by Daniel Libeskind in the citylife area and should be ready for 2011, even though there are still many doubts about it.

The fair itself will be full of new features and surprises and, thanks to the increasing collaboration with public and private associations, art will takeover the whole city of Milan with the parallel project called “FuoriMiArt” that will include different art exhibitions located in different parts of the city.

A few examples? Anselm Kiefer at the Triennale Bovisa, Giacomo Balla at Palazzo Reale, Mario Sironi at Fondazione delle Stelline and last but not least Richard Avedon at Spazio Forma.
