Set up in the environment of a garage where tools, machines and materials reflect the daily work life, Made in Berlin – Open Process exhibition provide a closer look at the design processes, going from the very first inspiration and
concept, beyond various testing phases to the prototypes.

NETwork 3D stitching furniture – lamp, stool, armchair and bowl series

The „NETwork 3D stitching furniture“ project combines new high technologies, applied to traditional stitching techniques, with a collection of edited textile objects.

The objects of the „NETwork 3D stitching furniture“ collection – armchairs, stools, bowls and lamps – are “plotted” onto a carrier by the means of a programmable stitching machine in order to create a “pop-up-object”, that raises from the surface as if it was extruded into its third dimension. The stitched textile honeycomb structures are resin-impregnated in order to make them rigid and constructive.

The result is a series of extremely light and transparent objects, that seem to float in the space as textile 3D-meta-network.

Lift – occasional roto mould tables

Fascinated by plastics and the possibilities offered by roto moulding technologies, Mark Braun designed Lift, an occasional table series. Each table has two areas for flexible use – for example one for a pack of books you want to read and the other for the book you are currently reading. By using pure geometric forms the design of Lift communicates the beauty of plastics in colour and surface finish, combined with the great possibilities of large roto mould plastic shapes.

e27: Pit – floor- and table light

The Pit lamp is based on a simple idea: e27 have analysed and abstracted the principle of tilting, searching for a way to integrate it into the design of a product.

OLIVERVO: Spherology – installation and design process

Spherology is made with polyethylene nets, cotton, aluminium and rubber. A prototype and a design process.

What inspires you every morning to get out of bed and get your day started?
The sheer magnificence and gift of the world we live in, and the drive to participate with my own creative achievement.

What makes your day successful?
The physical manifestation of ideas.

What does design represent for you?
Design is part of the process of creation.  Everything that is made is designed.  Good design is the result of directed thought, creative energy and love.  Some people are naturally gifted in this process.

Where did you find the inspiration for your first project?
I find inspiration in the great design achievements of God and man.

What things are inspiring you at the moment?
I am currently inspired by the patterns of rebirth and growth associated with spring.

Will you be present during Milan design week 2011? What will you exhibit there?
Commitments in my fine art career will prevent me attending design week 2011.  However the Emirate Collection will be on view at ENTRATALIBERA, Design Glamour Store.

What is the future of design?
I believe that we as a culture are entering a time of great change.  Our world is constantly being recreated at a faster and faster pace.  There is a great need for artists and designers to interpret and actualize the energy of a world in flux.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I judge my success by my increased ability to create.  I hope to continue to be creatively challenged, and have the resources to meet those challenges in a powerful way.

If your life is to be a movie which one would it be?
“Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”  because:  “ We are the magic makers, and We are the dreamers of dreams.”

They used the old furniture, industrial materials, forgotten precious jewelry, all of that to make the new artistic sense of esthetics.

This show will take the place in Atelier of  Draga Obradovic , the designer which objects  (sofas, armchairs, pouffes and cushions ) we could describe like an union between painting and style, an exclusive and unique through the special techniques.

In 2006 Draga designed her first unique furniture collection using pieces from various time periods and styles—an game of endless matching. The pieces can be combined in various ways according to the tastes and needs of varying environments in which different styles and periods find harmony in the uniqueness of the fabric.

Behind each chair is a history and this project aims to highlight the importance  the sociological context, personal, geographical and historical design.

The young Belgium designer Pascale De Backer showed us the great projects on Salone Satellite 2009.

Beach Cocoon is a relax chair. It is selfinflatable with a battery or electricity in five minutes. You can take Beach Cocoon easy with you in two compact bags. Beach Cocoon is made of transparant pvc so you can see the structure inside. The design is based on the optical art (years 50). This chair can be used at the beach, the garden, the swimming pool and in the house.

Night Cube is a night table and can be used at the right and the left side of the bed by turning it 90°. The under part is made of light and soft framefoam with a color coating. The upper part is made of colored polyester and is a spherelight. Night Cube can be produced in different colors.

On the occasion of Design Week 09, we were chatting with one of the most creative designer who is focused on furniture, lights, materials and surfaces for wallpapers, carpet and laminate industry.

What is inspiring you at the moment?
The wake up atmosphere-ccreative caos.

Describe your personal style?
Investigative , curious, couragious- i dont care about the fashion of the day.

Where do you work on your projects?
Preferedly in restaurant scribbling on napkins.

How would  you describe an evolution in your work, from your first projects to the present day?
Once I reach one step I move to the next – things get more complex in designing but the appearance or final result more simple.

Your favourite product designed by you, why?
Rapoxy resin coating – because it allows everybody to go crazy on their floors or make their own furniture. Its more a tool.

What advice would you give to the young?
Be curious, openminded and explore.

Where do you see yourself in ten years time?
Working – I like to work.and being in the shade in a hammock and playing with my kids.

The best way to survive the frenzy is to prepare beforehand. The Milan icon design trail is back by popular demand and will offer much-needed solace. The build-up this year is more jittery than usual but there will still be brisk trade on the 220,000sq m fair ground, and the Zona Tortona promises plenty of activity as per usual.

This year the sumptuous Villa Reale by the Giardini Pubblici will become a British hub with the British Design Embassy setting up home here, in a space curated by Paul Smith. Next door the multi screen film installation Love & Money – 50 years of creative Britain is showing.

Coming from a world of industrial design, Carlo Maria Pelagallo brought some fresh air to the handbag world with his versatile desing.

“Dpurse” handbag is your first accessories collection, designed for modern women. Why Fiat 500?
FIAT 500 represents one of the symbols of the Italian character and the creativity of this country. It wasn’t a calculated choice, it was she who chose me to give her an trendy interpretation in such a way that for once she will be the one being transported by us.

How was born this project, given that you’re coming from a world of industrial  design?
As an industrial designer I’m open to any creative challenge; whether developing a handbag, a chair or a component for a racecar makes no difference to me. What I like about accessories is that they are 3-dimensional objects which at times have their own dimensions and other times which form is determined by what they are contained in.

You brought some fresh air to the handbag world. Where do you see the future of fashion design?
Fashion, as other industries must free itself of insecurities, not close itself off, but let itself be conquered by the torrent of ideas which flows in every place and in every instant, to be more or less market oriented so as to become an avant-garde medium.

“DESIGN is your way of breaking the models of a system”. How would you describe your currently work and what is inspiring you at the moment?
It is the means of communication which I chose in order to express myself since I wouldn’t be able to transmit my sensations merely through words.

My work reflects my character; egocentric, touchy, stubborn and romantic. I am inspired by everything that I’m still unfamiliar with.

5. What is your dream job?
That which manages to surprise me like a child with each new discovery.

Where do you see yourself in ten years time?
That’s difficult to answer, I hope to never define my own future.
