The prominent position enjoyed by the exhibition at an international level is demonstrated by its exceptional figures: the 160,000 square metres of the

Bologna exhibition centre are hosting a total of 1,078 exhibitors (including 233 foreign companies from 32 different countries) The poster for this year’s show was created by internationally renowned architect and designer Toyo Ito. “Grids ruled space throughout the 20th century. Cities all over the world have been covered by homogeneous grids. I have a feeling that in this century, grids will melt, become distorted and transform like natural topographies. In other words, architecture is becoming closer to natural systems.” The Japanese master believes that by uniting surface and structure it is possible to generate organic geometries, to create pleasant, entertaining and lively spaces. These qualities are the distinctive features of Italian ceramic tiles, whose tactile and chromatic values, surfaces, shapes and dimensions make them ideal not only as furnishing accessories with a strongly functional role in the domestic environment but also as aesthetic, communicative elements. With its packed programme of high-profile initiatives, Cersaie 2007 will as always see the participation of a large international audience of exhibitors, designers, architects, interior designers and journalists. It is a unique opportunity to see the results of experimentation and research projects focusing on aesthetics and quality, to take part in the widest range of initiatives to evaluate new forms of interaction between ceramic, architecture and art, and to find out how Italian ceramic tiles dictate new style and design trends.
