The two of them were not actually friends, but their ideas, innovations and creations, shared a very similar trait. It is true that fashion did not really start with these two ladies, but they were the ones who were brave enough to make all those “first steps” in fashion world. Thus, when people started to wear new or different clothes, the first fashion trends were launched. A place where fashion trends today occur, stop or change, apart from Paris, London and New York, is the center of the fashion world – Milan.

It’s a short introduction of the fashion article “Fashion for all and fashion for some” written by me .  This new issue is dedicated to the city of Milan and to all its interesting aspects ( fashion, design, architecture, social movements…) Metropolis is a high-brow, culture and travel oriented, Hebrew language quarterly, a cross between a book and a magazine. Each one of the four annual issues is devoted to a single city or region, and covers it through articles written by local writers, on various subjects like arts, history, urban development, fashion, culinary, politics and more. The magazine contains about 160 colorful pages, and is accompanied by a pocket guidebook.

Set up in the environment of a garage where tools, machines and materials reflect the daily work life, Made in Berlin – Open Process exhibition provide a closer look at the design processes, going from the very first inspiration and
concept, beyond various testing phases to the prototypes.

NETwork 3D stitching furniture – lamp, stool, armchair and bowl series

The „NETwork 3D stitching furniture“ project combines new high technologies, applied to traditional stitching techniques, with a collection of edited textile objects.

The objects of the „NETwork 3D stitching furniture“ collection – armchairs, stools, bowls and lamps – are “plotted” onto a carrier by the means of a programmable stitching machine in order to create a “pop-up-object”, that raises from the surface as if it was extruded into its third dimension. The stitched textile honeycomb structures are resin-impregnated in order to make them rigid and constructive.

The result is a series of extremely light and transparent objects, that seem to float in the space as textile 3D-meta-network.

Lift – occasional roto mould tables

Fascinated by plastics and the possibilities offered by roto moulding technologies, Mark Braun designed Lift, an occasional table series. Each table has two areas for flexible use – for example one for a pack of books you want to read and the other for the book you are currently reading. By using pure geometric forms the design of Lift communicates the beauty of plastics in colour and surface finish, combined with the great possibilities of large roto mould plastic shapes.

e27: Pit – floor- and table light

The Pit lamp is based on a simple idea: e27 have analysed and abstracted the principle of tilting, searching for a way to integrate it into the design of a product.

OLIVERVO: Spherology – installation and design process

Spherology is made with polyethylene nets, cotton, aluminium and rubber. A prototype and a design process.

Within a few years of its opening, the Hotel Regina Isabella had become the first choice resort of the jet set, a centre of fashionable culture. Such legends as Richard Burton, Liz Taylor, Maria Callas, Alberto Sordi and William Holden starred here in its golden heyday, when the hotel was acknowledged as one of the world’s most glamorous and sought after destinations.

Once again during recent years, the worlds of show business, commerce, politics and culture have rediscovered the hotel, drawn by the prestigious festivals and cultural events that take place on Ischia.

It ‘s framed by the magnificent landscape of the island of Ischia, the largest of Parthenopean islands in the Gulf of Naples, an island where every stone reflects 2,700 years of tradition and history. The Hotel is situated on the sea shore at Lacco Ameno, in the centre of a peaceful bay, surrounded by rocks and the green canopy of Mediterranean pine woods. The main entrance gives on to the picturesque little square of Santa Restituta, renowned for the church of the same name, the archaeological museum and the local antique and clothing stalls.

Regina Isabella  offers guests a choice of 128 rooms including 27 Luxury Units equipped with every possible comfort.The architecture and internal furnishings reflect a culture dedicated to the pursuit of beauty: bright and majestic spaces in the Mediterranean style; floors in genuine Capodimonte ceramic and hand painted majolica; furniture in the style of the patrician villas of Naples; lighting fixtures in Murano glass; paintings, pictures and tapestries of the finest craftsmanship.

The typically 1950s decor is complemented by works by contemporary artists and modern design features. Awards for her work have spanned the decades including those from Communication Arts Illustration Annual in 1984, Society of Illustrators “Best of Fashion Illustration” for three awards in 1993, and again in 2006 for Best of Illustration. She considers her full roster of clients award enough and enjoys drawing fashion more than anything.

“It’s the combination of colors, line and shape with the human form and the personality. Nowhere but in fashion, do you get that explosive combination,” Julie says. “Not only do I love drawing fashion, but I love the people that stand out as personalities in fashion, who exude their own creative, and oftentimes, outrageous style. Dancers, performers and anyone who is comfortable in their own skin are also favorites of mine to draw.”

Her skill at drawing the figure has pulled her into other areas for clients such as book covers for romance novels by Jackie Collins. Her portrait of Anna Wintour for the cover of a book on the fashion editors life was captured in a few quick strokes of brush and ink. Her work has been seen in the Wall Street Journal, Fortune Magazine, the New York Times, Womens Wear Daily, and on posters, beauty products, and inside books by Oprah Winfrey.

Julie Johnson has lived in both New York City and San Francisco for over twenty years. She is now settled in the Midwest of the United States, enjoying how the internet makes it easy to find clients internationally and working out of an art studio that is converted from an old brick school house in the middle of beautiful farmland.

During the month of April 2010, look for her work to be on billboards and walls throughout New York City’s Union Square subway station. Eighty-eight separate ads will showcase her fashion drawings for Filene’s Basement, a discount retailer in the United States.

The best way to survive the frenzy is to prepare beforehand. The Milan icon design trail is back by popular demand and will offer much-needed solace. The build-up this year is more jittery than usual but there will still be brisk trade on the 220,000sq m fair ground, and the Zona Tortona promises plenty of activity as per usual.

This year the sumptuous Villa Reale by the Giardini Pubblici will become a British hub with the British Design Embassy setting up home here, in a space curated by Paul Smith. Next door the multi screen film installation Love & Money – 50 years of creative Britain is showing.

This interactive installation by young artist Marko Simic,  collects the interviews of important world-wide designers, which were recorded via internet. The aim is to find a possible keys for “futuro del diseño” of the international scene.

The video wall which consist 100 exclusive videos by most important designers like:  Antoni Muntadas, Ricardo Salas, Eva Lootz, Alberto Corazón, Manuel Estrada, Francisco Jarauta, and  many others. These videos are composed by 20 special visions of the design future.

Cuccagna intends to make a revolution, transforming a quarter in an open-air laboratory

This project aims to achieve in Milan a “multifunctional center  of initiative and participation in cultural territory” whishing to make a replicable prototype.

This center will have life in the rehabilitated areas of Cascina Cuccagna  Street that the municipality of Milan has allocated with public notice in grounds, recognizing the validity of the project.

The final project will be mainly attributable with three thematic areas of intervention: environment and food, culture and territory, cohesion and integration.

The mission is build one cultural bridge that will make relationship between city and village and creates opportunities to reconnect, lifestyle and daily practices, food and agriculture, quality and sustainability, global modernity and tradition.

Portuguese architect Luís Pereira Miguel has won a competition to design a new store for clothing brand Benetton in Omsk, Russia.

Called Combispace, the project was the winning entry to the Colorsdesigner competition inviting young architects and designers to create retail spaces.
