The exhibition is divided chronologically into four phases that characterize the life of Artemisia; very young in Rome early – under the influence of his father Orazio, the years in Florence where her style is developed independently leading to a unique encoding, the return to Rome in the early twenties and the next nearly quarter century until her death arrived in Naples in 1653.

Artemisia Gentileschi ( 1593–1652) was an Italian Early Baroque painter, today considered one of the most accomplished painters in the generation influenced by Caravaggio. In an era when women painters were not easily accepted by the artistic community, she was the first female painter to become a member of the Accademia di Arte del Disegno in Florence.
